Our research

Our research aims to deduce the role of microRNAs in prostate cancer initiation and progression. The focus of our research is on the miRNA regulation of the transient processes leading to tumor progression and metastases as the reversibility of this type of regulation present a possible interference option. To capture the dynamic events occurring as the tumour cells transforms in response to the microenvironment we tag the cancer cells and perform functional in vivo screenings, followed by molecular and functional characterization and validations in clinical cohorts, to elucidate what regulate the different steps leading to the metastatic dissemination to different sites. We are also interested in the priming of the metastatic niche by exosomally transferred microRNAs. Together, this will increase the understanding of cancer metastasis and help design novel therapeutic strategies. Enable biomarker-based detection and monitoring cancer progression and subsequent metastatic spread.
